Investor Grievances Redressal and Guidance Division

The fifth meeting of the Working Group on Investor Education was held on August 31, 2000 at SEBI, Mumbai office to review the steps taken during last six months for Investor Education and to consider further measures in this regard.

  1. It was noted that about one crore SEBI’s booklets titled "A Quick Reference Guide for Investors" had been printed and circulated to the investors by Companies such as ICICI Ltd., IDBI, Reliance Industries Ltd. Bank of India, Larsen & Toubro Ltd., TISCO, Hindustan Lever Ltd., State Bank of India and Corporation Bank. The Unit Trust of India has also circulated this booklet to its investors.
  2. BSE released a diary providing information on do’s and do not’s for the Investors in Primary Market and Secondary Market as well as on derivatives for the benefit of investors and the same has been made available to the investors on complimentary basis. 
  3. NSE also come out with the publications useful for the investors in securities market. It was noted that over one lac of these copies have been made available to the investors on complimentary basis.
  4. The Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) has published a booklet titled "Making Mutual Funds work for you" and has already circulated over five lac copies to the investors.
  5. It was decided that BSE and NSE would come out with the informative booklets on the areas such as dematerialisation, secondary market operations and primary market operations.
  6. It was decided that SEBI would advise all the Stock Exchanges to translate and publish the aforesaid booklets for the benefit of investors in their respective local languages. 
  7. It was also decided to explore the possibility of having free slots on radio including FM channels and Televisions through the Directorate of Audio, Visual Publicity, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and also on private channels for airing catchy one liners for the benefit of investors in capital market. 
  8. It was also decided to explore the possibility of having such educative programmes for the benefit of investors through UGC and IGNOU. 
  9. It was noted that SEBI is in the process of organising open houses in various cities through out India to obtain feedback from investors, to enable them to air their grievances against companies. It was decided that the representatives of companies, stock exchange and Investors’ Associations would be invited to attend such open houses.
